Dr. Sujata Naik -Tolani
Dr. Sujata Naik-Tolani, daughter of Late Dr.N.P.Tolani, graduated from Seth G.S.Medical College, Mumbai in 1984 which was followed by MS (Otolaryngology) in 1988 from T. N. Medical College, Mumbai. With the intent of broadening her professional horizon, she proceeded to USA, where she was triple board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Sujata Naik-Tolani, a practicing pulmonologist and intensivist was Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at The Brooklyn Hospital Centre, New York, NY. She was also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cornell Medical School, New York, NY. In this capacity she was involved in teaching and training several medical students, resident doctors and pulmonary fellows. Presently she has taken an indefinite sabbatical from the medical profession to participate and guide the family business and social initiatives.
Dr. Sujata Naik-Tolani has been a member of the Board of Directors of Tolani Group of Companies since 1984. In 2009, she was appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Tolani Shipping Company Limited and has actively been steering the growth of the Company.
Dr. Sujata Naik-Tolani is the President (2020 - present) of the Indian National Ship Owners Association (INSA). She also serves as the Chairperson of the Research and Training Committee, and is a trustee of the Maritime Training Trust. As an INSA nominee she serves on the Board of Directors of Indian Register of Shipping.
Imbibed with the persona of her father, Late Dr.N.P.Tolani, she guides the social initiatives of the Group with the same dynamism and commitment. She is the Chairperson of the Governing Council of Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI) and a member of the Governing Body of Tolani Education Society (TES), which has established and manages the Tolani College of Commerce (TCC).
Mr. R. Kumar
Mr. R.Kumar, graduated in Commerce in the year 1984 from the University of Calcutta. Thereafter, he completed his post graduate studies in Cost Accountancy and Company Secretary. With experience in finance, accounts and banking, he joined the Tolani Group in 1991. Over the years, Mr. Kumar handled diverse portfolios with increasing responsibilities. He rapidly climbed the ladder in the organization and became an integral part of the core management team. He was inducted into the Board in the year 2000 and appointed Managing Director of the Company in 2007.
Presently, he is also a Member of Governing Council of Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI) and on the Advisory Committee of Tolani College of Commerce (TCC), guiding the institutions on their qualitative functioning and growth.
Mr. C.V.Rao
Mr.C.V.Rao completed the Marine Engineering course from Technical Institute of Visakhapatnam Port Trust in the year 1980. He then qualified as Class I Marine engineer. With a total sailing experience of 14 years on bulk carriers, container vessels and general cargo vessels, he joined the Company in 1989 as a Chief Engineer. In 1994 he was selected to join the head office as Engineer Superintendent to participate in the technical operations of the fleet and subsequently became part of the core management team. His technical expertise has been and remains vital in the expansion of the Company’s fleet. He is credited with drawing up and implementing the company’s Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems and other regulatory compliances. In the year 2007, he was appointed as Director – Technical of the company. In this role, he spearheads the Technical Management of the fleet. To complement his role in the company he also qualified, by examination in commercial ship management, to become a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers (London).
Mr. Naresh Chand Singhal
Mr. Naresh C. Singhal holds triple post-graduate qualification in the fields of Economics, Statistics and Public Administration. He also attended Advanced Management Programs (AMPs) at several institutes of higher learning. He was awarded United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Fellowship for higher studies in the field of Development Economics, at VNII (Nefth), Moscow and St. Petersburg.
He began his career at ONGC, where he served in various positions. Thereafter, he joined ICICI Limited as a senior executive. He received specially structured professional training in development banking at the World Bank, Washington D.C. and Kreditenstalt fur Wiederaufbau, Frankfurt. In recognition of his services, he was inducted into the Board of Directors of ICICI Limited.
The Shipping Credit & Investment Corporation of India Limited (SCICI), was established at the initiative of Government of India to serve as a specialized financial institution for the development of marine and shipping industry. Mr. Singhal was the nominated to be the founder Chief Executive Officer, designated as the Vice-Chairman & Managing Director of SCICI.
Mr. Singhal was invited to and joined the Board of Directors of TSCL in September 2003. His vast experience in banking, finance and the maritime sector has been of immense value to the company’s operations and growth.
Mr. Singhal also served as a non-executive Chairman/Director of various companies, in India and abroad, engaged in banking, finance, mutual fund, insurance, power generation, manufacturing and shipping. He was elected Vice-chairman of the Maritime Division of the International Chambers of Commerce, Paris, and Director of the Commercial Crime Bureau, London."
Mr. Michael P. Pinto
Mr. Michael P. Pinto holds a double post graduate qualification in Sociology and Public Administration from University of Delhi and Harvard University, respectively.
After joining the Indian Administrative Service, he served various Government Departments and Institutions in various positions. He has been the Director General of Shipping and Secretary to the Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India.
Mr.Pinto was instrumental in drawing up the National Maritime Policy, giving a greater role to private investments in the Maritime Sector. He has significant experience in the Maritime field and has articulated India’s stand at several international forums. He was the first Indian to be elected as Vice Chairman of the Council of International Maritime Organization (IMO). In recognition of these outstanding contributions to the Indian Maritime Sector he was conferred Varuna Award by the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee in the year 2010.
He joined the Board of TSCL in November 2008. The Board of the company benefits from his wealth of experience in the maritime sector.
He also serves as a non-executive Director of various other companies engaged in ship building, port management, infrastructure and health care.
Mr. Raymond L. Pai
Mr. Raymond L. Pai is a Marine Engineer by qualification, having graduated from DMET in 1963. He had a brief sea career with Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI). He then moved to the shore management of SCI for the next 13 years holding senior management positions in the technical, operations, development, finance, new building and commercial departments of SCI's diversified fleet of tankers, bulk, container, general cargo, gas carrier, passenger and offshore vessels.
In 1981, he set up an independent shipping and offshore business group in Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T), which he headed as chief executive till Oct 1994, with responsibility for all financial, commercial and operational functions of the group.
In 1994, the Reliance management invited him to join the top management project team to setup the mega refinery and petrochemicals complex at Jamnagar. He was team leader responsible for concept, design, EPC and commissioning of the refinery infrastructure and logistics facilities for import of crude oil and evacuation of products by sea, road, rail, and pipeline. He was Director in charge of RPTL (Reliance Ports & Terminals Ltd.). He next worked closely on the design, modification, and commissioning of India's largest FPSO Dhirubai-1. In 2006 he started work on developing a new green-field multi-cargo, large port complex at Rewas (near Mumbai) and was director of Rewas Ports Ltd. Between 2014 -18 he was advisor to the Reliance Group for design, construction and commissioning of the world’s largest Ethane Liquefied gas carrier fleet to move 1.5 mmtpa of cryogenic Ethane from US Gulf to India as feedstock for the Reliance petrochemical plants.
Among other professional activities in his 56-year career are:
• For 7-years on official GoI delegations to IMO Council and Assembly sessions.
• Director of INSA from 1986-2008 and President of INSA during 1993-94.
• Member of the governing board of GoI National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai - 1997-2008
• Member of the governing board of erstwhile GoI National Ship Design and Research Centre Visakhapatnam - 1987-2000
• He has been on the India Advisory Committees of ABS, DNV-GL, LR and NK, for over 25 years and is also chairman of the LR & NK S. Asia Technical Committees.
